Island Static is the rawest reflection of the adidas Skateboarding China team’s memories of the Hainan island. Last November, in the heart of winter, Johnny led the crew away from the cold to this warm, laid-back sanctuary.
Over the course of two weeks—traveling from Haikou to Wanning—the skaters followed the ocean currents and the magnetic pull of the island air, exploring every inch of the landscape beneath its seemingly calm surface. New tricks, new spots, and new stories were all woven together...

Haikou doesn't offer a vast array of spots, but the rain is relentless. Just as the weather is unpredictable, so is the terrain. Sometimes, the crew could do nothing but sit on a bus, scouting the streets for a dry spot—or just a place to wait out the storm.
In the midst of the gloomy weather, a moldy KTV found by the roadside or a late-night hunt for street food stalls became a new kind of "spot discovery."
海口的地形不算多，雨倒是很勤。天有不测风云，地形也是。有时大家只能坐着大巴在街上寻找地形——或者避雨的地方。
郁闷的天气里，路边偶遇的发霉的 KTV，夜间组队寻找的宵夜摊，则成了一种新的“地形惊喜”。
In Wanning, the weather finally played along. The damp, moldy vibe was swept away, but a skate trip is never smooth sailing just because the sun is out. Stubborn security guards, dancing damas in the public squares, restricted "ruin spots"... yet, just like the state of "static," the pace was slow but the movement never stopped.
大家在万宁得到了天气的眷顾。霉味被一扫而空，但滑板之旅并不会因为好天气，就变得一帆风顺。难缠的保安，广场的大妈，受管控的“废墟地形”……可就如“static”的状态一样，缓行，但没有停止。
This trip also marked Xiaohu’s first time stepping out of the contest environment and hitting the streets with the team. Unlike the controlled pressure of a competition, the streets are full of randomness and uncertainty. Despite his seemingly quiet personality, he let his skating do the talking.
本次旅途，也是小虎首次走出赛场环境，和队伍一起走上街头。和比赛可控的压力不同，街上充满了随机性和不确定性。在看似闷闷的性格下，他用动作给出了很好的回应。
Island Static isn't one of those skate films that exists solely for the biggest gaps or the gnarliest tricks. Instead, it’s a "tropical" portrait that captures the distinct personalities of the skaters themselves.
