2009 Pro-Tec Pool Party

"The Pro Tech Pool Party at the Combi Bowl in Vans Skatepark was out of control. This year was exceptional with names like Bucky Lasek, Omar Hassan, and Rune Glifberg, and younger new talent all hungry for the title. The group of young riders like Pedro Barros and Josh Rodriguez were skating like they had nothing to loose. The preliminaries and finals were electric with everyone pushing to out perform one another.

This year was extra special as Christian Hosoi joined other skateboarding legends including Steve Caballero and Chis Miller in the Pro Tech Pool Party Masters competition. Homes skated super strong which propelled him to second place in the masters competition, just behind the now 5 time consecutive champ, Chris Miller.

The Pro Tech Pool Party contest format is a mix of traditional single runs and jam sessions. The riders all have a few single runs in the first half of the heat, then the second half it turns into a jam with everyone jumping into the bowl in no particular order. During the jam session there are often 2, 3 or more riders in the bowl at one time. The action was heart stopping with riders criss crossing with in the bowl trying to avoid full on collisions, which inevitably occur whether it is two riders slamming into each other or flying board taking someone out.

The older more mature pros still walked away with the top three spots this year, but there was huge noise about the new comer from Brazil, Perdo Barros. The 14 year old kid came and amazed all those in attendance. There is now a line up of young talent that is sure to challenge the big guys for a chance on the podium in next year's competition. Once these young guys get more experience and become more mature as riders they are going to be hard to beat."
