And just when we thought GoPro had done it all, the engineers in San Mateo have introduced the HEROCast, a live-streaming solution to pair with their arsenal of GoPro cameras and mounts. The HEROCast and HEROCast BacPac (the more robust of the two products) are the wireless options that will deliver live streaming footage in 1080p and 720p resolution at 60 frames per second.
The HEROCast is a standalone wireless HD transmitter that connects to the GoPro camera via an HDMI cable. The wireless product is optimized for body mounting POV shots. The HEROCast BacPac is the same price but acts as an all-in-one solution, directly connecting to the GoPro camera while also being water-resistant.
In an age of instant gratification, live-streaming apps like Periscope or Meerkat, compatible with Twitter and other social networks, are becoming the next generation of social tech. So it’s no surprise that the leader of action-sports POV footage has developed its own professional solution, slated at $7,500 for both the HEROCast and HEROCast BacPac. Although this price may be hard to digest for your average Joe, it’s a steal when comparing the technology to other wireless cameras on the market.
If you don’t have $7,500 lying around, Merrkat and Periscope are new live streaming apps that are definitely worth looking into.
