It's a massive undertaking for a single person to independently shoot a feature-length skate video and actually hold the audience's attention the whole way through.
Guo Jingrun put in about two years, traveling the country and collecting a crew of grass roots skaters —most of whom are amateur skaters you probably don't know. But regardless of region, age, skill, or anything else, in this film, they all embody that one mantra: "we are one." Now, it's finally time to see their story.
想要一个人独立完成全长影片的拍摄制作，并让大家安静地从头看到尾是不容易的。郭静润花了两年左右，走南闯北，搜罗了一大堆“奇能异士”，其中大部分可能是你不认识的素人滑手。但无论是地域，年纪，技术还是什么，在这部影片中，他们都组成那句话“we are one”。现在是时候看看他们的故事了。
🎙️ Introduce yourself, and tell us how you got into filming skateboarding.
"I'm Guo Jingrun, but just call me Guo. I'm from Chengdu and I work in the skate industry at POGO Skateshop. I've always been terrible at skating myself, but I really wanted a good reason to hang out with skaters, so I just started filming stuff. I began shooting in 2022. The POGO 20th Anniversary video, START OVER, was the first time I got real, hands-on experience with skate filming, led by Hao Ge and Fei Ge. That was exactly three years ago this year."
🎙️ 介绍一下你自己吧，怎么开始拍上滑板的。
郭静润，叫我郭就好。来自成都，在 POGO滑板店，滑板行业从业人员。
自己一直滑得很烂，但是又很想找个理由和滑手们待在一起,于是开始拍东西。2022年开始拍，POGO 20周年《START OVER》是在豪哥和飞哥的带领下，第一次接触实实在在的滑板拍摄，到今年刚好三年。
🎙️ It's a 40-minute video. First, how long did it take to film, how many people are in it, how many places did you visit, and how much did it cost?
"The oldest to the newest footage spans about two years. But the real, dedicated time spent gathering material specifically for this video took exactly one year right up until the release. As for how many people, I didn't get an exact count, but it's probably about 60-something skaters.
I traveled to some of the spots for work reasons, like Kunming, Guangxi, and Haikou. I filmed some local skaters there and the skaters who traveled with me.
We kept travel and accommodation as cheap as possible, but it still added up. Plus, some of the expenses shooting in Chengdu are hard to define, so it's tough to calculate exactly how much I spent, but it was at least five figures [RMB]."
🎙️ 40 分钟的片子，先说说拍了多久吧，拍了多少人，去了多少地方，花了多少钱？
素材从最早的到最新的时间跨度有大概两年。正儿八经为了这个片子攒素材的话，到发布正好一年。至于多少人没太仔细数过，大概 60 几个滑手。
有些地方是因为工作原因去到的，比如昆明，广西和海口。途中也有拍一些当地的滑手，还有跟我一起去的滑手一起拍。
出行住宿虽然都是能省则省，但是也花了些，加上在成都拍有些支出难以定义，所以花了多少钱还真不好算，但至少是5位数了。
🎙️ So when did you first get the idea, and how did you get it started?
"It was around the end of September last year. I had just finished filming the solo parts for Luo Yang and Cai Bi. My passion for filming was at its peak, and I had a ton of ideas swirling around that I hadn't sorted out—it was the moment I wanted to film the most.
On the night of Luo Yang's Chengdu premiere, AKou (a PsychoS skater) told me she wanted to film some stuff too, and I happily agreed. So I figured, since we're starting, let's call up more skaters. I then linked up with GanG, a female skater from Shanxi, thinking about whether we could make a compilation video of all-female skaters."
🎙️ 那你是从什么时候开始有这个想法的？怎么开始的？
去年 9 月底的样子，那个时候我刚拍完罗杨的个人片，还有彩笔的个人片。对拍摄热情最高涨，脑子里有很多想法没得到梳理，也正是最想拍的时候。
罗杨成都的首映晚上，啊扣(psychos 滑手)跟我说她也想拍点东西，我欣然允诺。于是想着既然开始之后就多叫一些滑手，然后找到了 GanG，来自山西的一位女滑手，想着能不能拍个女滑手合集出来。
Not long after we started, I went to Kunming for work, where I ran into Brother B and Shao Zhu, and we started chatting about the film. At that point, I wanted to film more skaters for the video, but I didn't have a concrete plan. Shao Zhu immediately helped me rally a bunch of local Kunming skaters, and that's how we got the first Kunming part.
That really cemented my idea: film more skaters and put together a longer video—the more skaters the better. I initially wanted to hit 10 cities and get 100 skaters nationwide, and even though we only hit 6 cities and 60-something skaters, I'm already super satisfied!
开机没多久因为工作去到昆明，遇到 B哥和烧猪，我们聊天就聊到这事儿。那个时候我有点想往片子里多拍点滑手，但是没有一个具体的概念。烧猪直接帮我呼喊了一堆昆明本地的滑手来，于是有了昆明第一个 part。也坚定了我的想法，多拍点滑手，攒一个长一点的片，滑手越多越好。我最开始是想全国 10 个城市，100个滑手，虽然最后只完成了 6 个城市，60 几个滑手。但是我真的已经超级满足了!
🎙️ The video has a lot of classic movie scenes spliced into it. What's the deal with that new approach?
"Actually, after I first locked down the idea, I casually got my fortune told. It predicted the project wouldn't be completed, and that an accident would happen midway that would keep me from finishing. Even though I didn't totally believe it, I prepared myself mentally. I decided the process was what mattered; the final result wasn't important.
That indirectly led to me not filming many establishing shots or general filler. So, I don't have those typical scenic city shots or just skaters cruising around."
🎙️ 片子中间穿插了很多经典电影场景，这是什么新玩法？
其实我最开始确定想法以后给自己随便算了一卦，说的是这件事会完不成，中间就会出事故，导致没办法做完。虽然我没有很信，但是也给自己打了预防针，重要的是过程，有没有结果其实不重要。间接导致我拍的时候没怎么拍空镜，所以没有一些常规的城市美景，滑手展示这种镜头。
I didn't have much to work with when I was editing. When I picked a track from Scarface, I thought, why not just sample a few shots from the movie? Then, during the rough cut of the whole video, I locked in a few other movies—all films I really love—and just went with the original movie soundtracks for the music.
But I've had the idea of using movie and music video samples for a long time. He Shaoji showed me the DGK video GOLD GOONS two years ago, which had tons of MV samples. I had the idea then, but never got the chance to pull it off until now—I finally seized the opportunity.
我在剪辑的时候就没什么可以用的，在选择音乐的时候选到了一首《疤面煞星》的，我想着干脆就采样几个镜头。然后整片粗剪的时候就确定了几个电影，都是我自己很喜欢的电影，与此同时我干脆就选用的电影原声的音乐。
但是使用电影和 mv 采样，我很早就有这个想法。何绍吉两年前给我看过一个 DGK 的《GLOD GOONS》，里面大量 mv 采样。我当时就有这个想法，但是一直没有机会实施，也是被我逮到机会了。
🎙️ You filmed so many skaters—how did you link up with them all? Who made the deepest impression, and why?
"As I just said, I first went to Kunming for work, and Shao Zhu helped me connect with a ton of skaters there. Then, my trip to Nanchang was thanks to Xiao Yan, who also helped me round up the local skaters to hang out and film.
In Nanchang, I met a group of skaters who came over from Wuhan, and I linked up with Brother Long (Long Ge), so the next stop was straight to Wuhan. After that, I went to Haikou for work, which led to me contacting Da Xigua to go to Nanning.
Finally, I thought since we started in Kunming, we should finish in Kunming. So I contacted Shao Zhu again and went back. I want to thank all the skaters everywhere, and thank all my friends."
🎙️ 拍了这么多滑手，都是怎么联系到的？印象最深的是谁？为什么？
刚说最开始昆明因为工作去到，烧猪帮我联络了很多滑手。然后我通过去南昌，是因为小颜，也是他帮我联络当地的滑手出来玩，出来拍。
在南昌我遇到了一批武汉过来玩的滑手，刚好认识龙哥，下一站就直接去到武汉。在之后因为工作去到海口，然后联系大西瓜到了南宁。
最后我想昆明开始，也就在昆明结束吧。再次联系烧猪去到昆明。在此感谢各地的滑手们，感谢我的朋友们。
The one who made the deepest impression was actually an older skater from Wuhan, Kawasaki Ikkyu. His tricks seriously just jumped out at you. You could probably count on one hand the number of people in China doing the same kind of stuff. His flow is just different, even if the tricks aren't objectively huge or tech.
You don't need to know his face—you'll know exactly who I'm talking about once you see the video. Even though we only linked up for a few days, it felt like we'd known each other forever, and we just clicked.
印象最深的反而是武汉的一位年龄颇大的滑手，川崎一休，他的动作真的是眼前一亮。国内和他做一样的动作的可能屈指可数。玩的确实不一样，虽然不是客观意义上的难/大。
大家不用认识脸，看完片子就应该知道我说的谁。虽然只短短接触几天，但是总有一种相见恨晚的感觉，特别聊得来。
🎙️ What are the plans for this video's footage, and what are your own plans next?
"We'll organize all the individual clips and send them out to each skater. At the same time, I'm going to cut a separate, more 'best-of' edit because there are still a lot of really good tricks in there.
I don't really have any specific big plans next. I'm going to try to film some stuff with friends that has nothing to do with skating—like documentaries, kendama, or motorcycling trips—just to broaden my perspective. But ultimately, I know it'll feed back into my skate filming, and I hope to film better stuff. Also, anyone who likes the stuff I film should feel free to reach out and contact me!"
🎙️ 这个片子后续还有什么打算，你本人接下来还有什么计划。
后面会把所有滑手的个人动作整理一下，发给各位滑手。与此同时会单独重新再剪辑一个相对精华些的，因为里面还是有很多很好的动作。
接下来其实也没什么特别的打算，准备找朋友拍一些和滑板没啥关系的东西，纪录片/剑玉/摩旅之类的，打开一些视野。但是最后还是反哺到拍滑板上，希望能拍的更好一些。另外有喜欢我拍的东西的可以联系我！
