This has to be the biggest news in the "Cantonese-speaking skate scene" lately: the 8FIVE2 skate shop has officially opened its street-level storefront in Causeway Bay. Many friends from the community showed up for the grand opening. We also caught up with the founder of 8FIVE2, Brian Siswojo (aka JBS), to chat all about the new shop.
这应该是“粤语滑板圈”前段时候最大的新闻了，香港 8FVIE2 滑板店在铜锣湾的街铺隆重开业了，周边很多朋友都去到了开业活动的现场。我们也拉上 8FVIE2 创始人 J Brian Siswojo 李凯贤 aka JBS，一起聊了聊关于新店的一切。

🎙️ The past year has been a grind for the entire skate industry. What was the catalyst or the opportunity that allowed 852 to push through the downturn and reopen a proper street-level shop?
I’m blessed to have a partner in 2025, AD Chan, I’ve known AD for more than 30 years, he’s like a brother to me, super nice guy with skateboarding passion as much as I do, only fellow skateboarder that will understand the hardship of owning a skate shop.
Both AD and I really believe in Hong Kong’s future and its retail business plus we opened our shop in 1999, we believe in our direction as well.
Therefore, when there’s good opportunity for us to open a shop on the ground level and it’s in Causeway Bay, we didn’t even hesitate. Plus this area that we are in called Fashion Walk by Hang Lung is a very sought-after area for fashion brand, it just fits perfectly.
🎙️ 过去一年对整个滑板行业而言都不太容易，是什么契机让 8FIVE2 得以逆势而上开设实体街边店铺？
我非常幸运 2025 能与合伙人 AD Chan 携手同行。我认识 AD 有三十多年了，他如我的兄弟般亲近，一个很不错的人，对滑板的热情和我一样热烈，真的只有同为滑手才能理解经营滑板店的艰辛。
我和 AD 都坚信香港的未来和零售业的发展前景，而且我们早在 1999 年就开店了，对自己的方向充满信心。因此，当有机会在铜锣湾开一家临街店铺时，我们毫不犹豫地把握住了这个机会。 更何况我们所在的恒隆时尚坊区域，也是时尚品牌争相进驻的黄金地段，堪称完美契合。
🎙️ Tell us about the shop's aesthetic. What are the key design features, and how much of your personal vision is baked into the new space?
The Hong Kong Love Statue, we all know a little more LOVE in our day to day life. Of course our signature Polaroid Walls. Most of them are my personal vision with the help of AD, Stephany and Kit.
🎙️ 请谈谈店铺的设计理念。核心元素有哪些？新空间融入了多少你的个人构想？
Hong Kong Love 雕像——我们都明白日常生活中需要更多爱。当然还有标志性的宝丽来照片墙 （多年以来 8FIVE2 会用宝丽来为到访的全球各地朋友拍摄一张照片放在店铺入口处，此前还推出过一本宝丽来照片书）。大部分设计都融入了我的个人理念，同时得到了艺术总监 Stephany 和 Kit 的协助。
🎙️ For those who might not know, could you give us a brief rundown of 852’s heritage and its journey in the scene?
I have been skateboarding since 1988 and I started 8FIVE2 out of my 500 sq apartment back in 1999.
My parents, my 3 siblings and myself were living in that apartment. We have gone through SARS, Economic Crisis, Covid and more but we won’t give up and will always provide the best skateboarding products, nice apparels and the best sneakers to the customers.
🎙️ 能否为不了解品牌的人简述 852 的传承与发展历程？
我自 1988 年开始滑板，1999 年在 500 平方英尺（约 46 平米）的公寓里创立了 8FIVE2 。当时全家六口挤在那间公寓里。我们历经 SARS、金融危机、新冠疫情等重重考验，却从未放弃，始终为顾客提供最优质的滑板装备、时尚服饰和顶级滑板鞋。
🎙️ How’s the current vibe in the Hong Kong skate scene?Looking at the industry, what are the biggest hurdles you’re facing, and where do you see the new opportunities?
The skate scene is alright, not that big but we are all pretty tight. It’s just very tough going through year 2022 to 2025 but with the products that we carry and our own in-house brand 8FIVE2, we are confident that customers will come in and purchase some products simply because they are super on point.
🎙️ 香港滑板圈当前氛围如何？从行业角度看，你们面临的最大挑战是什么？又在哪里看到新机遇？
滑板圈挺不错的，规模不大但大家关系都很密切。2022 到 2025 年这段日子确实很艰难，不过凭借我们引进的产品线和自有品牌 8FIVE2，我们有信心吸引顾客前来选购——毕竟这些产品对滑手来说真的很到位了。
