Japanese skateboarding has proven itself both in competitions and on the streets. But in the endless stream of long and short videos and the dense push notifications of mobile short videos, a skateboarding group called Stump Boys stands out in a simple, powerful and bright way, distinguishing itself from the night skating, fast feet, strange and slightly exaggerated styles.
After watching the T4 personal clips and the whole film, we also contacted Stump Boys through Xiao Tang to talk about the story behind the team and the filming.
🎙️ I've never heard of this brand before, but I saw on YouTube that you guys have been around for over a decade. Can you tell me a little bit about the team?
※ We made our first video 10 years ago, but it was just a casual thing. Then, as more and more friends joined, I felt it was time to make a serious video together.
🎙️ Stump Boys has two Instagrams. What's up with that?
※ The first one is the OG Instagram of Stumpboys 😂 The official Instagram of Stumpboys is @the_stumpboys
🎙️ I heard that many Japanese skateboarders used to have jobs outside of skateboarding. Do the Stump Boys have any other special jobs?
※ We all have different jobs. Some of us are landscapers, farmers, factory workers, and motorcycle mechanics! I want to work hard and make a living from skateboarding as soon as possible!
🎙️ Let's get back to the movie. Is this your first full-length movie? Are you planning to make a new one?
※ This is the second video we've released since we started working together officially! The first one was a montage video. It didn't have full parts like this one, but it featured Stumpboys members and friends skating together. The Stumpboys montage was the first one.We want to keep making more videos in the future!
🎙️ How long did it take to film this movie?
※ It took about two months to film this one. We all slept in a van and went out filming every morning. That's how we got so many clips.
🎙️ This movie seems to explore more terrain outside of the city center. Was that to avoid the guards?
※ We didn't really think about the guards 😂 We all like bigger terrain. We look for spots with the right atmosphere and shape for the tricks we want to do. We want to show off our own unique style.
🎙️ Will Stump Boys be selling clothes and other merchandise?
※ We're considering selling clothes and small items in the future.
🎙️ Will there be a photo book to accompany the movie?
※ There is no photo book or other merchandise for this video, but there is a special feature on T4 in a magazine called "Kawa". If we have the opportunity to do another special feature, we would definitely want to do it 😂

※大家都做着不同的工作，有在球场上铺设草坪的工匠，种植农作物的农民，还有在工厂，在摩托车维修工作的! 我想尽快努力只靠滑板过三昧生活！

※这是大家一起正式行动后发布的第2部视频!
第1部像蒙太奇影像一样，虽然没有像这次出fullpart，但是也有stumpboys的成员和一起找地形一起滑板的朋友们的视频，stumpboys montage是第一个，
今后想不断的制作更多视频！
🎙️ 这部电影拍了多久？
※这次大约2个月左右就拍完了。
大家一起在面包车里过夜，每天起床后马上去拍摄，这样会拍到很多片段。
🎙️ 这部电影好像探索了更多市中心以外的地形。是为了避开警卫吗？
※没考虑警卫的事情😂
大家都很喜欢比较大的地形，在氛围，形状都刚好都适合自己想做的动作，展现最具风格的自己是大家在寻找的
🎙️ Stump Boys也会发售衣服等吗？
※正在考虑从现在开始销售衣服和小物件。
🎙️ 这部电影会公布附属的摄影书吗？
※这次视频中没有附属书籍等，但是在名叫“川”的杂志上发布了T4的特辑。
如果有那种特辑的机会的话，那一定是想做的😂
